Blog for the Week of 2/8/15

Impulse By Ellen Hopkins

Pages #181-332

Prompt: List the personality characteristics of the main character (feelings, interests,
behaviors, etc.)

In my book there is three main characters, not just one. Tony is from a bad part of town. He is book smart and street smart. His mother didn't really take care of him and his dad left him so he could get a job. His dad sent him to Aspen Springs, which is why Tony hates his dad. He also did time in jail when he was younger. Tony can get angry easily, but he is also really nice. Tony is also gay, however he does have feelings for Vanessa (the other main character).

Vanessa grew up in a not-so-loving home. Her mom was crazy, she had bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Her dad was in the military so he was always in different countries. However, even when he was home he wasn't loving. The only person who really cared for Vanessa and made her happy was her Grandma. Vanessa is quiet and somewhat shy. Except when she is around Tony or Conner.

Conner also didn't grow up in a loving home (I'm starting to see a pattern). However, unlike Vanessa or Tony, Conner was rich. His mom always bought him expensive name brand clothes. Conner's mother was caring in a twisted way, but she wasn't loving at all. Conner has a twin sister but he says she is as evil as his mother. His dad wasn't loving either, the only thing wanted his son to be was a perfect athlete and student. Conner was a popular kid, he got all the girls, and was a star football player, and a great student.

I commented on Evie'sEmily's, and Devin's.

  1. Hey Lillian! Nice blog! I just have a question, why does Tony not like Aspen Springs? I actually think everything is pretty good in your blog, and your book seems very interesting. I was wondering what is the conflict in the story? And this Connor kid sounds like a cool cat.

    1. Thanks Evie, Tony doesn't like it because he feels like he is back in jail. There are three conflicts for the main characters, I would tell you them but that would spoil the entire book. So, you should read it to find out. ;)

  2. I really liked your blog post this week Lillian! I was wondering what you mean by book smart and street smart. I have heard of those sayings before but not both together. Otherwise, I think your blog post was really good!

    1. Thank you, I'm mean that Tony is smart in school and things like that, and he is also smart about being on the streets and dealing with people.

  3. I liked the blog post! The characters you described all sounded different and unique. I will probably end up reading this book. Although a couple of questions. Are they all friends? And what did Tony do jail time for?

    From the greatest.

    1. Thanks Devin and they are all friends. However, I'm still not sure what Tony did to get into jail...

  4. Hey, nice blog Lilly, you did a very nice job on this, and it seems like there isn't much wrong with this. This blog made me interested in the book, because the characters in a book is a crucial detail. It was a good idea to base your blog off of characters. Overall, nice job!

  5. This sounds like a really interesting book Lilly! It seems like they all have a similar background. How old are they? I really didn't see any grammatical errors, great job!

  6. This book sounds like it would be very fun to read! I liked how you described the characters environment like how their families act to them. I'm not sure if its the font your using but when you put "Vanessa" it looks like its not capitalized, if you could fix that it would be great! Another thing, and it may just be me is that some words look darker then the rest of the text. Also if you could see to fix that. Thanks!
